The Use of the Ring of Gyges

A great number of students were asked about the actions which they possibly could do if they had the opportunity to find such ring as was described in the trilogy ‘Lord of the Rings’. Well, they answered that surely they used for entertainment or personal profit. As they knew that there would not be any punishment for its using they possibly had the desirable power.
Very often the Ring of Gyges is used in order to kill someone or to scary, to get a lot of money or other pressures. The amount of those who could use it in positive character was little. So, we can see that in our world there are a lot of good people but if they have the chance to be powerful their kindness is disappearing.

One little girl said that if she had a chance to be the owner of such ring she would try to make hurt for that people whom she does not love, she would trick and laugh. Some of young person want to know the thoughts of their friends. If they could be invisible they had the opportunity to listen to the talks of the friends and to be aware what they say about you when you are absent.
Well, telling the truth, the desires are terrifying. Everyone wants to use the power only for personal profit. For people it is more interesting to make fun of other people then be ready to help. And if they know that the ring can not do anything positive why you should do something good if it is useless? So, our society is too weak to make good if there are more possibilities to have fun.
Human nature is a very interesting thing. We can not think about the other before we are sure about our personal well being. So, the Ring of Gyges help to discover the worst things in the person then good ones.

Tralfamadorian Philosophy and American Government

The representatives of Tralfamadorian philosophy can not feel any scare for death. They stick to the point that they can exist in a great number of other periods of time. If we try to understand what they feel in fact it will be very difficult to do, but nevertheless it can be compared with such situation: our planet, all its population, takes drugs and leaves the reality. It is terrible but it is true.
It was stated that Tralfamadorians are more psychologically stable than humans. Humans can easily experience again different terrible things which could happen and Tralfamadorians just keep it in mind, firstly see it and then analyze it. Such similar situation is noticed in the case of war period and the attitude of the government to it. They can firstly use the bomb and then just think about the reasons and sometimes about the consequences. But the funniest thing is that during the war period the government can propose to describe very interesting points of the war, such as “… the dog sees the grenade, take it and runs to the enemies in order to save the country…”
In his works Vonnegut also tried to show the real nature of wars which were in force due to the actions of American Government. He tried to underline its sick, stupid and terrible nature. If the Government wants people can die and in soon time it is going to be stay in the history, but I fact forgotten by the citizens.
In order to solve the problems the government just keep it in mind and when it takes place again more people die, but to the Governmental mind it is not necessary to solve, just to live further. So, Vonnegut underlines that we should recognize the faults and change it in future in order not to see the main points but in order to have the possibility to avoid war in future and not to be the reasons for the next innocent deaths.

The Ideas of the Books Created by Boethius

Here is a little description of the five parts of the work made by Boethius in order to give the answers for John the Deacon. The fourth chapter was called as ‘The Demands of Christian Doctrine’. The main theme covered the ideas of Christianity, described special authority of the Bible. It supposed to be the first part but due to some reasons it went only under the number four. The following chapter that was created was ‘Against Eutyches and Nestorius’. It was about the standpoints of those two sides concerning the nature of Christ. It was published as the chapter number five.
The main theme of the first three chapters was connected to the ideas of God, Predication and Trinity. But of course in each chapter there were its peculiarities. For example, second chapter covered the points about the Trinity from the point of view of St. Augustine. He tried to explain what constituent of the Trinity was the victim of the flesh. But the more was found concerning those facts it was more difficult to continue the work.
The first chapter gave the definition to the God and proposed its categories. To be more exactly, the chapter did not provide the number differences but category differences. So, the last, third chapter, covered all above mentioned topics but not from the Christianity side. The author described the rules of that metaphysical system which was created by him. Such system covered the standpoints of the whole philosophy, so it did not connect only to the Christianity.
In general, we can say that the meaning of works by Boethius is really great. It can be proved that his ideas were regarded during some centuries. His ideas were used by many further philosophers and they were helpful.
The ideas of theology created by Boethius were supported by many people, but as not everybody had the ability to understand there were some disagreements during which the truth was found.

The Importance of the Boethius Works

One philosopher said that he had the ability to see the geometry works created by Boethius. It was Herbert of Aurillac. Probably there were found some geometry works, but it turned to be very difficult to prove that their author was Boethius.
There was no doubt that Boethius was influenced by someone but by whom for sure it was hard to say. Some historians noticed the lines of Patricius in his introduction to The Commentary on Cicero’s Topics.
In XI century one more representative from Vatic tried to prove that he saw the works. In this time it was Usener. He said about the similarity with Euclid’s works. But Cassiodorus was the most original as he pointed that Boethius finished his quadrivium and there were all above mentioned names and even some more, such as Nicomachus and Archimedes.
One of the most popular works for that period of time surely was The Consolation of Philosophy. The main character was named Philosophy, a woman with such eyes which could show that her powers were so great, above the possibility of person. There was also something special in her cloth. There were two Greek letters (phi and theta) which were the symbols of the philosophy: practical and theoretical. This story tells about the meeting of Boethius and Philosophy. She retold the words spoken to him by God. Also they covered such topic as freedom and fate.
Such organization of the work was not new one for Rome literature. There was great number of consolations of whose who were in prison, died or exiled. The form of dialogue was already used by some writers so it was not very difficult to create. More interesting was the point of personification. It was really fresh idea to create the dialogue between the characters: the author and the imaginary character. But the main idea lied in the fact that the image of the author was present in both whose characters.

The Main Ideas of Tralfamadorian Philosophy

Now we are going to describe such interesting issue as Tralfamadorian philosophy, is essence and main ideas. First of all, it is necessary to point out that Kurt Vonnegut was one of the writers who tried to give the definition as for such kind of philosophy. One of his works is Slaughterhouse-Five.
The representatives of such philosophy can exist only in joyful moments if they want. A kind of connection line and comparison was made by Vonnegut where he pointed some similar features of Tralfamadorian and American war philosophy. Americans could kill a lot of people just as they wanted so, without any specific reasons, and say that hey were heroes and public would support such words.
Such philosophy has the ability to see each moment of live at the same time. They have a kind of autonomy from time. If ordinary people should follow certain line of time, Tralfamadorians could choose the moment what they wanted and stay there any time they want.
As every person their dates of birth and death are established, but the conscious wisdom of time has no limits. Also, the belief in destiny takes an important place. Probably, they can see future, but, in fact, they can not influence on what they can see. Even if they say that they have such opportunity to change future, in reality such possibility is set in the stone.
In order not to be disappointed with tragedies of life the Tralfamadorians can experience it and after that live in that period which can be happier for them. Such possibilities give the reasons for optimistic vision of life. In addition to all this it is possible to avoid the things which usually happen to ordinary people and make some negative impact on life. They can just pass by such important things as wars, death and even little problems without any desire to solve it.
